Is the Ketogenic Diet Right For You?




Chances are, if your goal is to slim down and look good before next summer, then you know that there many kinds of diet plans that you can choose from. Some of these over promise results and mislead you. So be careful, and most importantly, you need to know that in order to lose weight with the best results, you need to understand that there is no substitute for regular exercise and a well balanced diet.


Never the less, these fad diets never seem to go away and although they do produce results, they are not long term. One of the most popular fad diets is the ketogenic diet. The ketogenic diet is a weight loss plan where the body enters a state called ketosis. Ketosis is where the body uses fat as its main energy source, which leads to a healthy but rapid weight loss. To effectively perform the ketogenic diet, your body must enter ketosis, so you will need to follow a diet that is very low in carbohydrates, this will force your body to switch to using fat for energy. The Atkins diet is a great example of the ketogenic diet.



When on the ketogenic diet, you're main focus will be to achieve maximum weight loss by following what is known as a cyclical ketogenic diet, which is to simply to go from Monday to Friday integrating three to four workouts into your week without consuming carbs. Then on the weekends you will load up on carbs and don’t exercise. 

The ketogenic diet has gained popularity because carb loading allows you to store up some carbohydrate energy for the week ahead and assists you in keeping your strength levels up for your upcoming workouts. The ketogenic diet works great because it prevents your body from going into starvation mode and forces it to store fat which will slow down your weight loss progress due to your low calorie intake on your ketogenic diet days.




This also means you get a relaxing two day break from cutting out carbs every week. One thing to take into consideration when following the ketogenic diet is; the fact that when starting out you should do a 10-14 day induction phase where you follow a low carb diet to induce ketosis, and then progress onto the ketogenic diet for two weeks, then repeat this cycle every week and do your exercise on the low carb days.

As with any diet that is not the normal means of weight loss, there will always be a downside and the ketogenic diet is no exception. Although the ketogenic diet has proved effective for weight loss, there have been some complaints people have made about the ketogenic diet, which is mostly the lack of energy they feel during workouts caused by the no carb during the week rule. 



The absence of carbs can make the ketogenic diet very hard to commit to and is why most people don't have long term effects of this alternative or any other fad diets. If you find the ketogenic diet. difficult for either of these reasons, then you either need a healthy form of energy that will sustain you without the use of carbs, such as THIS or simply the ketogenic diet may not be for you and you should find another plan that you will benefit from.
